Context-sensitive reporting training

Director Alex Spillius devised and delivered a two-day workshop for 20 journalists from either side of the Line of Control in Kashmir. Members of the media from the Indian and Pakistani parts of Kashmir were brought together in Bangkok. The workshop demonstrated how to report with more balance and less provocation, particularly in choice of language, and how to detect deliberately inflammatory or fake stories, especially on social media. The goal was to enhance the role of the media as a stabilising force in the long-running conflict and to build stronger public trust in the media. The two days concluded with the formation of the Jammu & Kashmir Joint Media Forum, which established a mechanism for journalists across the divide to exchange information, views, travel plans and news on journalists’ welfare.
